EXCEPTIONAL TRIP FOR GOSAIKUNDA – THE SACRED Lake and origin of Holy RIVER Trishuli
There is a festival at the Full moon every August, people who practice Shamanism goes to the lake at 4312 meters in this region, every year to recharge their energy with the dip in the Lake and Puja of Lord Shiva.

  • Fully supported tea house trek or camping trek available
  • We can do Clean-up campaign.
  • Appreciation of culture and viewing Shamanism rituals at Lake Gosainkunda of Langtang region if we go in August.

Shamans (“Dhami”) come from all over Nepal and arrive at the lake on full moon night which involves dancing and singing. This day is considered holy by the shamans whereby apprentices or “Jhankris” graduate into full shamans.
The full moon month of Shrawan (July – August), the day when this festival is observed is considered sacred all over Nepal and is celebrated in different manners by various groups of people. Throughout the Kingdom, the “Dagadhari” (or those who wear the “Janai” or sacred thread on their bodies) change the “Janai” after having a haircut and a ritual bath on the occasion of Janai Purnima, also known as “Rishi Tarpani”. This festival is observed by the Hindus, especially of the Shaiva sect.
Full moon night in the month of August is also popularly known as “Gunhu Punhi” in the Newar community.

According to time-honored tradition, people receive the “Rakshya Bandhan” thread tied around the wrist. The yellow thread is purified by the chanting of Mantras by Brahmins as a symbol of protection from fear and disease. They also observe the occasion as “Kwati Purnima”.
On this day, thousands of devotees worship Lord Shiva at Pashupatinath in Kathmandu and at Kumbheswor in Lalitpur and take holy bath dips in the ponds and lakes.

Me and a friend went window shopping in Kathmandu for a nice agency. Earthbound gave a very sharp price for our Langtang valley and Gosainkunda trek. But most of all the boss gave us a good feeling that we were in the right place. We had an amazing experience with Hari as our guide and Gokarni as our very strong porter! Hari was a good guide, one of us got altitude sickness and he took great care of him. Very good and professional experience, would definitly recommend! Bas and Dino
