Island Peak Climbing with EBC Trek

The Everest Base Camp and Island Peak Trek seems to be a more difficult option than just the traditional up and down Everest Base Camp Trek.

Island Peak Climbing with EBC Trek Overview

20 Days Island peak climbing and Everest base camp hike will take you through the classic trek route of EBC, Kalapathar and Everest Base Camp. The Everest Base Camp and Island Peak Trek is an even more difficult option than the standard up and down Everest Base Camp Trek.

The Everest Base Camp (EBC) journey, which includes a climb of Island Peak, begins with a breathtaking birds-eye vista of the soaring white Himalayan Mountains. You will arrive in Lukla and then begin your climb up the Dudh Kosi Valley, which is bordered by the enormous Thamserku (6623m) and Kusum Kanguru (6367m). Kusum Kanguru means “Three Snow-White Gods” in Sherpa, referring to the mountain’s triple peak. Imja Tse is another name for Island Peak in Tibetan. Island Peak was appropriately named by early Mt. Everest explorers due to its appearance as an island in an ice sea.

Earthbound Expedition’s Everest base camp trek with Island peak climbing is a one of the popular journey that travelers have been enjoying for many years.

Kathmandu - Lukla (2880m) - Phakding (2740m)

Our early morning flight by Twin Otter aircraft whisks us away to Lukla, the world\'s most famous alpine airfield. On the trip, we observe the rough foothills give way to the Himalayan snowline; several of the world\'s highest mountains, including Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, and Makalu (the world\'s third, fourth, and fifth highest, respectively), may occasionally be seen from the plane\'s window. When we arrive in Lukla, Surprisingly, this high-altitude walk begins with a descent to the Phakding River. We will remain there.

Phakding - Namche (3445m).

The first day may have seemed unusually long to some, but staying in Phakding permits us to start our trek to Namche Bazaar first thing in the morning. A opening in the trees approximately halfway up the slope allows us to see Everest for the first time. The peak of the South-West Face will be just visible behind the long Lhotse-Nuptse ridge if the weather is clear. A plume may frequently be observed reaching away from the peak. Namche is the most rich and populous town in the Khumbu region. Every Saturday, a bazaar is conducted here.

Meat, grains, and vegetables, tennis shoes and souvenirs, and hand woven aprons and Tibetan boots are among the items on show. The Sherpas welcome traders from the foothills as well as Tibetans from over the border. Thamserku (6648m), Kwangde Ri (6187m), and Khumbila (5707m) encircle Namche\'s natural basin.

Dingboche (4,300m): Rest day

We advise you to try one of two walks rather than just lazing about in the tents or tea house. The shorter route ascends the slope directly behind Dingboche before descending sharply to Periche.

On most afternoons, the Himalayan Rescue Association runs a medical station here, and western physicians provide excellent courses on Altitude Mountain Sickness (AMS). A longer walk up the Imja Tse valley towards Island Peak is also an option.

The views of Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Ama Dablam and Cho Oyu are spectacular from here. Chukung is reached after a few hours, and after a respite, return down the valley.

Lobuche - Kala Pattar (5545m) - Gorekshep

It\'s been a long day with an early start. We go down the rocky road that runs alongside the Khumbu glacier to the tea shacks at Gorakshep. The lovely 7000m mountain of Pumori looms behind us, dwarfing our trek\'s top of Kala Pattar. The ascent is simple and takes most people between 90 minutes and 2 hours. From this fantastic vantage point, you can see Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Changtse, Ama Dablam, and a slew of other lower peaks.

Summit Island Peak (6160m). Return to Chhukung

You\'ll have an early start for the top. Once you reach the foot of the steep icefall below the top, the going becomes arduous. Scaling the wall to emerge on the ridge leading to the top requires extreme caution and attention. After reaching the summit, you will return to the Base Camp and Chhukhung.
